I am a married mother with 4 sons and 3 grandsons, this time next year it will be 4 grandchildren, probably another boy!!!. I do long for a granddaughter so I can shop for girly things instead of boyish things!!
I started quilting as a girl in the 1950's with my sisters and mother. I took the opportunity to learn how to "do it properly" when on holiday in St Ives in Cornwall in the 1970's and left my husband to look after 4 boys (aged 1 to 8) whilst I slaved over a sewing machine. I noticed a quilting class being advertised whilst walking around St Ives, booked myself on the class and made my first quilt - a cushion cover. I was very excited about what I had learned and have never lost the enthusiasm and desire to make more and more quilts. I have my own quilting room and 4 sewing machines (you never know when you need a spare one!!). I am a fabriholic (addicted to fabric - I go to FA (Fabriholic's Anonymous) on Monday nights - very traumatic - it has not helped me break the habit yet). Its normally so painful I have to go and buy at least 2 fat quarters to get over the trauma of FA.
I take great pleasure in taking part in a quilting group at the Ossy Mills in Lancashire every Thursday (and sometimes Friday) where we have fun whilst working together on our own projects. If you live locally then come along, learn to quilt or gain from the experience of other quilters. If you cannot get to Ossy Mills then look for a class close to where you live, I am sure it will be fun and you will make good friends.
